All the snow from November has pretty much melted and now it is so cold. It is better for plants to have a blanket of snow, but it doesn’t always happen that way. The gray skies have been relentless since July, no more that a day or two of sun at a time. More like the PNW, than NE.
Oh, Eliza, how I hate constant cloud cover! One of many reasons to love Long Island, like Cape Cod, is the many clear days! (Our older son quit SUNY Albany after a year and transferred to Stony Brook for that reason!). We have been spared bitter cold, apart from early Dec, tho today it’s 25deg with a 30mph wind which reminds me of the NH lakes! No doubt we shall soon get a dose of real winter. The plants do suffer from the changes , however. Some of my perennials look vulnerable with frost heaves in the beds. I wish you and yours well in a very peculiar winter! PNW weather is what we fled in the UK long ago!
I’ve overwintered geraniums several years, and when you get a bloom it is like a gardening holiday. Beautiful, and it perks you right up thinking about spring. 🙂

What a beautiful burst of red. Perfect for the short days of January, which are often, at least in Maine, beautiful bursts of blue.
