  1. A beautiful place to visit and there aren’t thousands of tourists in the photos. 🙂 Happy end of August.

We lived in Wading River 17y until retiring to NH. I used to walk along the beach often. The lack of crowds comes from a NYS Supreme Court ruling on how much beach water front homes can claim as private: answer, mean high tide mark. Tide was ebbing yesterday afternoon so I could walk the waters edge. People with sunshades, tents, etc are confined to the roped off “town beach.” Years of bitter fights before the court ruling. People used to drive miles along the shore. No more. Can’t even walk the beach at high tide. All part of the Island-wide battle over public beach access vs. private property rights.

Long Island Sound has pretty good water and controls on effluents. It’s 200ft deep in much of the eastern half. And the “high tide boundary” has greatly reduced litter.
